Faro City is located just inland of the natural park of Ria Formosa and separates the central to the east of the Algarve. With a population of 64,560 inhabitants and an area of approx. 202km2. It is the capital of the Algarve and pleasantly busy all year round.

It has a beautiful Historic centre and at the same time it is a modern city, a big residential area with large shopping centers and the airport.
The villages belonging to Faro and located just outside the city have a strong rural aspect.
The International Airport receives thousands of visitors annually from 45 airlines including the largest number low-cost airlines. Faro is approximately three hours and 30 minutes by air from the principal European destinations.

The Faro International Motorcycle Rally, usually held in mid-July, is a famous festival, renowned in Europe for being one of the biggest of its kind.
A 30,000-seat stadium Estádio Algarve, shared by the cities of Faro and Loulé, was one of the venues of the Euro 2004 football championship and is also the temporary home ground of the Gibraltar national football team. Louletano Desportos Clube (a club from the city of Loulé) and Sporting Clube Farense (from Faro) also use smaller municipal stadiums. The stadium is also used for concerts, festivals and other events.
Faro has many shopping facilities and various restaurants.
Beaches and Ria Formosa are famous and protected nature reserve areas. One can get to the beach/ islands by ferry.
The rural area around Faro city has overall properties on large plots. Among many Portuguese there are residents of all sorts of nationalities.
